Rebuilding the 460 the right way this time - II

It was a lot more work than we ever anticipated. At times, it seemed like the work would never end. Of course, we made a lot of extra work by upgrading from the cast aluminum intake and water pump to new polished parts as well as having all of the brackets chromed. The chrome and polished aluminum really made a huge difference. We wanted to do it all, right this time. So even little things like the coolant temperature sending unit was replaced with one anew.

The lower bung is for the temp gauge and the upper one to replace the dipstick.

As you can see from the photos, it does not look much different on the outside from the first rebuild back in 2003. The difference is inside, where everything is tight. This block was blueprinted and balanced. The pistons were replaced and unit was decked. There is a new camshaft along with all new bearings, high volume oil pump and seals. With Austin's help, this motor has been turned into a real powerhouse, along with being highly reliable. Now the real "fun" begins.
